Marten River Lodge receives Industry Leader Award
Destination Northern Ontario (DNO), a northern tourism industry organization funded by the Ontario Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries has named Marten River Lodge as Industry Leader for Marketing and Communications.
The Northern Ontario Industry Leader Awards recognize excellence in the province's tourism industry. Recipients provide outstanding leadership, exemplify best business practices, innovative marketing and deliver tourism experiences that contribute to the success of Ontario's tourism industry, which generates over $36 billion in economic activity and supporting more than 400,000 jobs.
The Marketing & Communications Award recognizes an organization or individual who contributes to Ontario's tourism industry through impacting partnerships, marketing activities, communications and media relations.
MRL is a 5-star, all-inclusive, resource-based tourism operation focused on providing anglers, hunters and outdoor enthusiasts with the Ultimate Outdoor Adventure. Founded in 1933 and operated by owners Donna and Ray Sapiano since 2012, MRL is among the oldest and highly regarded fishing and hunting resorts in Ontario. Earlier this fall, MRL also received Trip Advisor's Travellers' Choice Award, placing the resort in the top 10% of their 8.7 million world-wide listings based on consumer reviews.
In addition to the company's concerted efforts on building its own business, MRL has actively contributed to the growth and development of tourism in Marten River and northeastern Ontario through direct and ancillary marketing initiatives as well as through active engagement with industry stake holders and media. In recent years, MRL has collaborated with partners in the creation of television shows under the “GOFish” program to promote fishing. The company has invested heavily in marketing and advertising and also created independent websites martenriver.ca for the promotion of other local businesses, events and services and nobma.org for the Northern Ontario Bear Management Association.
In this pandemic year, MRL participated in industry and media interviews, consultations, surveys and campaigns in support of tourism operators' calls for help and industry-led efforts in implementing safety protocols and strategies for sustaining tourism. The company continues to engage in and support industry initiatives aimed at keeping travellers safe while mitigating the challenges faced by all tourism operators expected to prevail through 2021
“We graciously accept this recognition from our peers…,” says Ray Sapiano, “…and remain vigilant in our purpose to uphold the integrity of our business, the economic viability of tourism in the north, the safety of travellers and the world-class experiences northern Ontario has to offer.”
