Ontario Small Game Hunting
Surrounded by accessible Crown lands and old logging roads
Marten River Lodge sits on the boarder of WMUs 40 and 41 and is located just 30 minutes north of North Bay, Ontario. The lodge is surrounded by accessible Crown land and partridge hunters have access to miles of old logging roads and trails right from our driveway or within very short commutes in any direction. Because we spend a lot of time in the bush over the summer, we monitor partridge activity and we are happy to spend time with hunters to go over area maps and point them to known habitats.
Relatively dry summers will produce a good hatch for Ruffed and Spruce Grouse allowing hunters the opportunity to put up many birds in the fall and fill their limits. Wet summers can play havoc on young chicks with many not surviving a season of heavy rains. While conditions and bird populations can vary year to year, dedicated bird hunters will enjoy the experience and quality of our forests and trails. Dogs are also welcome at MRL in accordance with our pet policy.
For hunters seeking other small game species, both Woodcock and Varying Hare (Snowshoe Hare) populations are average in the area and can present incidental opportunities while hunting grouse.
As with all our hunting packages, small game hunters enjoy quality amenities and convenient access to hundreds of acres of crown land at Marten River Lodge. Marten River is host to many species of wildlife because of its ideal habitat with lots of cover, marshlands, rivers, lakes, streams and old growth forests.
We offer quality, spotlessly clean cottage accommodations completely equipped with linens, towels, microwaves, stove, BBQ, refrigerator, washrooms, and propane heat – every convenience for a comfortable hunting vacation.
When available, we can also arrange professional guiding services for a complete hunting experience.
